Jobs vs positions

In Quinto, you’ll notice there isn’t an option to add a user directly to a job. This is because the connection between a user and a job is made through positions.

  • A job is a description of requirements to perform a role.

  • A position is the container for a user that links them to a job.

Linking users to jobs through positions allows HR to see how many users perform the same job and where vacant positions can be filled.

For example, you might have three people in the role of Sales Representative. In Quinto, you would set this up as follows:

  1. Create a job description that outlines the responsibilities, competencies, skills, education, and other requirements for the role. Only one job description is needed.

  2. Create three positions, each linked to the same job. You can give them the same name or add details to distinguish them (e.g., “Sales Representative – Toronto”).

  3. Assign a user to each position. Users are added to positions, not directly to jobs. Because each position is linked to a job, Quinto knows which job the user is in.

Notes:

  • A job can have multiple positions, but each position can only be associated to one job.

  • Each position can only be filled by one user.

  • A user can have multiple positions for cases where a user performs more than one role.
